The fate of the furniture
Amalia’s writing desk
The furniture of the Royal Couple was taken to the New Royal Palace during the move. Due to the fact that the New Royal Palace had more space, new furniture that would cover the needs of the Royal Couple was added. However, the adventures of the furniture began in 1862, when Otto's throne was lost. A number of people who revolted had arrived at the New Royal Palace, destroyed and taken objects of the Royal fortune, which were, later on, distributed in Othonos Square (nowadays Omonia Square). Despite all these incidents, the Court managed to salvage among others, Otto's writing desk, archive and treasury and Amalia's personal belongings and correspondence. The rebels attacked mainly the symbols of authority.
