When Otto was six years old, the clergyman Johann-Georg von Oettl started teaching him (1794-1866). The education was based on Christian and humanitarian values. Later on, he was educated by the philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm Schelling (1775-1854) and the theologian, philhellene and Professor of Classical Philology Friedrich Wilhelm Thiersch (1784-1860). This education aimed at his becoming a clergyman, since as the second son he was not destined to become a King, but a clergyman according to the rules of the time.
