Kristiansand Cathedral
Kristiansand Domkirke
The Kristiansand Cathedral was built in 1883-84 in the neogothic style and was consecrated on March 18th, 1885. It is one of the largest churches in the country, with 1000 seats. Due to a series of fires that have plagued Kristiansand since its founding, the new cathedral is the fourth to stand at this location and was built in brick to be more fire-resistant. On the morning of 9 April 1940, a rocket shell hit the top of the cathedral tower, causing its spire to fall. The damaged spire became, for many, the very symbol of the occupation of Kristiansand. Can you find the same angle in this image now, where you are standing outside of the Cathedral? (Source: Fvn via Bente Stabell Link)
