Burn them all!
Otto’s backgammon board
The first portable backgammon board was made in 1526 because, the Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, member of the Court of Henry VIII, decreed the game illegal and ordered all backgammon boards to be burned. As a result, English players created new, folding, portable backgammon boards which looked like books, so that they could be easily hidden. This form has prevailed ever since for practical reasons.
