In Otto’s days
Otto’s backgammon board
In Otto’s days, backgammon was widespread in cafés. The players used to bet money, although this was forbidden. Sometimes, the winner, that is to say the one who had won seven games, was treated to a coffee by the loser. In cafés there were portable backgammon boards due to lack of space and the high cost. However, a King could have a special backgammon board, like this one, in his living-room. Nowadays, backgammon is one of the most widespread board games in Greece. It is played both in cafés and at home.
