Point of Absence
Point of Absence
What is the power of the absent? Three points signify equal absences that remain ever-present in the city and its imaginary: ① Dionysius the Philosopher (bust by Giorgos Mitsis, Albert Kasi) met a tragic end after leading a revolution that failed. ② The votive column of 1930 reminds us of those who lost their lives in the castle of Ioannina and did not survive to see the city liberated. ③ The charred root of a plane tree that no longer exists, remains a witness to the landfilling of the lake at the “roots” of the castle, the recent planting of plane trees, their contamination, and their loss. https://www.onassis.org/art/works/point-of-absence
