Haeringer's grocery store
Epicerie Haeringer
This old grocery store has preserved its original style. At Mr. Haeringer's, on the corner of rue des Bouchers et rue Neuve, I bought almost daily 25 cents worth of licorice sticks-in Alsatian Sièssholz-of which the shopkeeper seemed to possess an inexhaustible supply. A handful of these yellow, dried fibers, chewed, shredded for hours, reduced to a salad-like mash, would release endless delicious juice throughout the morning at school.
