Graybar Passage part 2: Mural
RHIANNON: In the wine and spirits shop on your left, you’ll see the remnants of the old movie theater that used to be on this spot, where newsreels would be screened for waiting passengers. Outside the shop, look up and you'll see a four-sided mural depicting the story of American transportation. It was painted in 1927 by Edward Trumbull. There’s a nod to the electric age with an electric locomotive pulling a train, a bridge resembling the city's High Bridge, the construction of a skyscraper, and several airplanes, including the famous “Spirit of St. Louis” against the radio tower.
