Sant Marti
Pujada de Sant Domènec
The building on top of the stairs is the church of the monastery of Saint Martin. It has existed since the 9th-10th century – that’s quite some history! As usual, it has witnessed many changes throughout history. In the 12th century, it was used by the Augustinian monks, but then in the 16th century the Jesuits took control of the building and made some renovations. After their expulsion in 1767, the building became the city’s seminar. But its story continued to evolve. It even went on to become a barracks, a jail – and nowadays, part of it is used by the University of Girona.
