3th Jewish Cemetry „Klein-Quenstedter-Straße“
3. Jüdischer Friedhof „Klein-Quenstedter-Straße“
The foundation of the German Reich in 1872 was the beginning of a period of prosperity for the Jewish community of Halberstadt. Against this backdrop, the community bought a large area in the 1890s adjacent to the municipal cemetery, which had also been newly established. There were 412 burials in this cemetery, the last one in October 1942. All the gravestones have been preserved here. The characteristic aspect of the third cemetery is that it remained attached to the Orthodox Jewish burial traditions even during the time of the acculturation of the Jews. The mourning hall, built in 1897, had to be demolished as a result of the pogrom night in 1938. The magnificent wrought-iron gate of the main entrance from Klein Quenstedter Straße, decorated with pomegranates and Stars of David, has been preserved.Near the entrance on Klein-Quenstedter Straße are graves of concentration camp prisoners who did not survive the "death march" in 1945.
