Chamber of Commerce
Handelskammer
Schwab writes:The next Curia, which was built in 1914/15 in faithful adherence to the old style in new beauty, and now forms the home of the Chamber of Commerce, can look back on a checkered past.Built under the deanship of the canons of Spiegel in 1754 as the "Dom-Dechanei-Gebäude", secularized on December 1, 1810 by decree of the Westphalian government and designated as a "prefecture building", it was established in 1813 by the Prussian state treasury to the "Gouvernement-Haus". From about 1819, the imposing building began to be used for the services of the administration of justice, namely until 1849 as the Higher Regional Court, until 1879 as the Court of Appeal and finally until September 30, 1911 as the Regional Court. A dark day in the glorious history of the house is May 21, 1808, on which Jerome resided there and held great "reception."Memorialized is Jérôme Bonaparte, the youngest brother Napoléon Bonaparte. From 1807 to 1813 he was king of the Kingdom of Westphalia. In GDR times, the medical school was located here and today it is the seat of a pharmaceutical company.
