The patron saint
Basilica of Santa Eulalia
The church of Santa Eulalia is a martyrial basilica honoring Eulalia, a Spanish Christian virgin martyr and patron saint of Mérida. The basilica was built in the 13th century to replace an earlier church erected in the fourth century and destroyed during the Arab conquest in the eighth century. The building combines early Christian, Visigothic, Romanesque, and Gothic elements.
