The members of the Corfu Reading Society have included some of the most important artistic personalities living in Corfu over the last two centuries, including the national poet Dionysios Solomos and other giants of modern Greek literature (including Andreas Kalvos, Lorentzos Mavilis, Iakovos Polylas and Konstantinos Theotokis), as well as the painter Angelos Gialinas. You can visit the library of the Reading Society. It is a treasure trove for scholars from Greece and abroad, with a unique collection of books, maps, newspapers and other archival documents from the 16th to the 19th century. Its crowning glory is the Heptanesian Book Collection, which comprises some 7,000 volumes.
