The Dr Who of gates
City Gate (Bieb il-Belt)
The City Gate was historically the main entrance to the fortified city of Valletta. There have been five successive gates through the ages. The current version was designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano and was built between 2011 and 2014. A combination of stone and steel, the gate was part of a much larger renovation project. Don’t you think that it's pretty controversial as too modern and inappropriate for a Baroque city like Valletta?
