Les Misérables
Les Gavroches
Les Gavroches is a bronze statue depicting three street children from Paris during the 1848 French Revolution. The pre-eminent Maltese sculptor Antonio Sciortino (1879-1947) designed and cast the sculpture. It was inaugurated in 1907. Sciortino drew inspiration from the fictional character of Gavroche, who appeared in Victor Hugo's novel Les Misérables. The statue in the Upper Barrakka Gardens is a replica since the original was transferred to the National Museum of Fine Arts (MUŻA) in 2000.
