Cavo Grosso, the infamous
Commercial Gerolimenas
The Venetian name of the cape, which in antiquity was called "Thirides" (safes). Its steep and rugged rocks made it easy for pirates and bandits to use it as a hiding place and a base for centuries. Known for its danger, Cavo Grosso was quite unpopular among the seafarers who kept a safe distance from it in order to avoid being seen and attacked by the pirates.
