The Lincoln Memorial was dedicated in May 1922 to honor Abraham Lincoln. The building has the form of a neoclassical temple and houses the colossal marble statue of the 16th president of the United States. The Lincoln Memorial is among Washington, D.C.'s most popular tourist attractions and a landmark of great symbolic meaning that has served as the background for seminal political and historical events, including Martin Luther King Jr.'s “I Have a Dream” speech.
