Engkainion
Having passed through the security control, continue straight toward the 1st Museum gallery. Once you’ve scanned your ticket, the turnstiles will be activated and you will enter the gallery of the Slopes. Head to the right side of the room where the 1st display case is situated. Direct your gaze downwards through the transparent glass floor and you will spot the egkainion. You will see a collection of small ceramics, animal bones and burned sacrifice remnants onto an illuminated panel. They have been obtained from a 3rd century BC residence.
Tip: It was a common practice among the Ancient Greeks to place an egkainion, namely a foundation deposit below the buildings they constructed to secure good luck and prosperity. The placing of the egkainion on this location is symbolical and of a similar purpose. This custom has been preserved until the present day.
