Time for a body lift
The green runner
The statue consists of pieces of glass in layers surrounding an iron skeleton. As time went by and the “Runner” maintained his athletic posture surrounded by a water fountain in Omonoia Square, it became apparent that all was not well. The statue simply did not have what it took to withstand the ravages of time and exposure to the elements that affected its stability. A major threat was added with the construction of the Athens Metro system and the expansion of the Omonoia station. It was then decided that the “Runner” should move someplace else. The artist disassembled the statue, redesigned it for the long run, and put it back together in its current location.
