Montmartre's Iconic Cabaret
Moulin Rouge
The Moulin Rouge, nestled in the heart of Montmartre, stands as an enduring symbol of glamour, entertainment, and artistic innovation. Established in 1889 by Joseph Oller and Charles Zidler, this iconic cabaret quickly became a legendary fixture in the district's cultural landscape. Originally, it was known for its revolutionary dance form, the can-can, which captivated audiences with its high-energy choreography and exuberant atmosphere. The signature red windmill atop the building as well as Toulouse-Lautrec’s iconic posters added to its unmistakable allure. Over the years, the now world known cabaret continued to evolve. It hosted famous performers, including Jane Avril and La Goulue, who became icons of the Belle Époque. Today, the Moulin Rouge remains a beloved institution, synonymous with Parisian nightlife and artistic extravagance.
