The Gasworks’ staff worked under extremely difficult conditions: in 60-70° C in spaces with fumes, awful smell and harmful gases. The 8-hour shift was hard to manage while many of them suffered from respiratory problems and other deadly diseases. Some workers can still recall that the factory’s management offered them a bottle of milk every morning before their shift in order to drink it and clean their lungs from the poisonous fumes and for enhancing their immune system.
