In 1857, the Athens Gasworks was founded by François Théophile Feraldi, who had undertaken another important project at the same time: the construction of a rail network connecting Athens with Piraeus. None of these two projects was completed since the funding was inadequate. On a visit to the Industrial Gas Museum today, one can easily find Feraldi’s signature but not his face. There is not a single picture of him on any archive, either Greek or international. How do you picture him?
