An “explosive” gas?
Gasholders
The first gasholder that was built in Gazi had a holding capacity of 7000sq.m. That caused fear and concern to the Gazi residents, especially if one took into consideration the explosive capacity of the coal gas. However, due to the increased needs of the market, the company built three more gasholders, with a distance from one another in order to avoid an explosive chain in case of an accident. Despite the fact that the gasholders in Europe were often a target during War times, there was no explosion in the Athens Gasworks!
