Who’s your daddy?
Oil and water don’t mix
The feud between Athena and Poseidon was old and complicated. According to Herodotus, the men of ancient Libya did not live together with their women, but mated with them like “beasts”. As a result, their offspring were initially considered sort of fatherless. On the third month after the birth, the men came together and declared as father of the child the man it most resembled. At the same time, the Libyans claimed that Athena was, in fact, the daughter of Poseidon, but she became furious at her father (for unspecified reasons) and gave herself to Zeus, who made her his own daughter.
