The Whitney sisters
Three Sisters Islands [on the first bridge]
The Three Sisters is a pocket archipelago south of Goat Island. They are named after Celinda, Angelina, and Asenath Whitney, the daughters of Parkhurst Whitney (founder of the Cataract House Hotel). The three girls were the first white women to reach the islands, and the locals honored them by christening the islands after them. Nevertheless, the Iroquois shamans used the islands to make offerings to the thunder god Hé-no for centuries before the arrival of European settlers.
