Honouring the past
St Stephen’s Green
St Stephen's Green is a 22-acre public park. The name originated in a nearby 13th-century church attached to a leper hospital. It is a typical Victorian garden with over 750 mature trees and fifteen commemorative statues or memorials, including a monumental arch honouring Dubliners who lost their lives in the Second Boer War (1899-1902) and the Three Fates fountain, a gift by the German people to express their gratitude to Dubliners for sheltering more than 500 children during the Second World War.
