The Tart with the Cart
The Molly Malone Statue
The Molly Malone statue honours the semi-historical and semi-legendary tragic heroine of the popular song “Cockles and Mussels” (also known as “In Dublin's Fair City” or simply “Molly Malone”). The statue was made by the Irish sculptor Jeanne Rynhart and was unveiled during the city's first-millennium celebrations in 1988. Following Dubliners’ predilection for giving abusing rhyming nicknames to their statues, Molly Malone is affectionately known as the Tart with the Cart (tart being slang for a prostitute).
