The sanctuary of the goddess Athena resides about 500 meters from the Holy Temple of Poseidon. The pottery found there dates from the early Bronze Age, proving that the area was inhabited in prehistoric times. Signs of its ancient presence can be found in the semicircular wall located on the northern side of the hill. Many experts suggest that the wall surrounded an olive tree, the holy plant of Athena, and that she was worshiped there even before the worship of Poseidon began.
