Everything's bigger in America
Grand Central Terminal
This saying is usually reserved for Texas, the second-largest state of the Union, but it can be actually applied to all corners of the United States. It should be no surprise then that Grand Central Terminal, one of the main commuter train stations serving Manhattan, is the largest station in the world when it comes to the number of platforms: a whopping total of 44, plus another 23 if one wants to include the tracks used for train maintenance and storage. But size isn’t the only impressive thing about this grand railway station constructed between 1903 and 1913; its unique architecture, monumental facade and decoration as well as its rich history have made it a symbol of the city and one of the most visited attractions in the world.
