More of a triangle, really
Times Square
Despite what its famous name indicates, Times Square isn’t a square. It acts as a square, but it’s not one geometrically; its shape is peculiar, and it could best be described as two intersecting triangles along the line marked by Broadway. Locals call it 'a bowtie', which is quite fitting considering that Times Square is an entryway to the Theater District. So, not only is it not a square, but the 'Times' part of the name is also no longer accurate! The square changed names from Longacre Square to Times Square when the headquarters of The New York Times moved here in 1904. The newspaper outgrew the building and moved away in 1913, but the name stuck. Today, Times Square is emblematic of New York, hosting many popular events such as the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop and others that attract millions of people every year.
