A Vision for Peace and Hope
United Nations Headquarters
After World War II, countries worldwide faced new challenges and sought to rebuild a better future. In response, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt championed the creation of an international organization dedicated to maintaining global peace. This vision led to the founding of the United Nations in October 1945. The General Assembly chose New York City as the site for its permanent headquarters. Construction began in 1948 and was completed four years later.
