Mycenaean society and culture
On the top of the social pyramid, there was the άναξ (king) and right after him the λαFαγετας (General of the Army).
Next, the τελεσταί (landowners).
An important position was also held by the επέται (dignitaries, officials) who could also have their own slaves and take part in war missions as the leaders of the infantry, protecting primarily the coastal areas of the empire. Their fathers’ name was written next to their own, as a sign of aristocratic descent.
Lastly the κορητήρ (regional commander).
The common people had all sort of different jobs like farmers, artisans, constructors, weavers, potters, coppersmith (only in Mycenae), fishermen etc.
