A monumental megalithic construction, located on the western side of the citadel. The height of the gate is 3.10 m. and it is 2.95 m. long. The rock of the gate is monolithic and it used to have a bronze gate with a decorated double-hinged door. On top of the gate, there is a "relieving" triangle, an architectural feature which balances the weight of the structure on the left and right, ensuring its stability. The name of the gate derives from the sculpture of two lions standing symmetrically on each side of a Doric column. The lions were used by many cultures throughout the ages as symbols of power and strength. The sculpture remains intact for the last 3250 years and is considered one of the most ancient signs of monumental architecture in Europe.
