Tholos tomb of Aegisthus
Tholos tomb of Aegisthus
The burial site attributed to Aegisthus is of the earliest tholos type and likely erected circa 1500 B.C.E. Its dome stands approximately 14.50 meters tall, crafted from comparatively diminutive stones. The chamber boasts a diameter of roughly 13.50 meters. Unfortunately, the apex of both the dome and the tomb proper has crumbled to an 8-meter height. Only from the remaining section, we learn about the construction method of the dome; constructed of dry stone, albeit with larger boulders, it stands as the sole example from its era. Despite its construction around 1500 B.C.E., the tomb bears the name of Aegisthus, who is believed to have lived around 1200 B.C.E.
