A World Heritage Site
Palau Guell
Palau Güell is one of Antoni Gaudí’s earliest works, marking a turning point in his career. Built between 1886 and 1890, it was commissioned by industrialist and art patron Eusebi Güell—hence the name. In 1945, his youngest daughter, Mercè Güell i López, donated the palace to Barcelona's Provincial Council, on the condition it be preserved and used for cultural purposes. In 1984, UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site. But what makes Gaudí’s work so special?
