La Sagrada Família may be the most famous temple in Barcelona, but the Cathedral is the most important. Officially named the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulàlia, it serves as the seat of the Archbishop of Barcelona. That’s why it is also referred to as “La Seu,” meaning “the seat.” Built atop the remains of a 4th-century paleo-Christian basilica and the Romanesque church that followed, the current structure dates back to the late 13th century. It features three naves, a choir, a number of chapels, and a cloister. It also features a crypt—but we’ll get to that later. For now, take a moment to observe the exterior.
