Ephrosini Vasileiou, also known as Lady Frosini, is an intelligent and assertive woman from Ioannina. Though married, she falls into the embrace of Ali Pasha’s son, Mouhtar. As a present, he gives her the ring his wife, Zenzivye, gave to him on their wedding day. Somebody sees it, recognizes it and informs Zenzivye. Driven mad by rage, she asks Ali Pasha to punish Frosini and 16 more women whom she accuses as Mouhtar’s mistresses. Ali Pasha is willing to forgive the beautiful Frosini, if she gives in to him. She refuses. Furious, Ali orders: all seventeen women are to be drowned in the lake. The order is carried out and Lady Frosini becomes a legend.
