Field of Legends
Negro Leagues Baseball Museum
The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum sits at the heart of 18th & Vine for a reason. Baseball, like jazz, tells a story of talent thriving even when opportunity was limited. When segregation barred Black players from Major League Baseball, the Negro Leagues rose in response—showcasing extraordinary skill, entrepreneurship, and community pride. Inside the museum, the emotional centerpiece is the Field of Legends. Ten life‑sized bronze players stand frozen mid‑game on a mock diamond, positioned as if you’ve stepped onto the field yourself. There’s no glass barrier—just faces, stances, and presence. Even a brief visit carries weight. These players weren’t side notes to baseball history; they were shaping it and the world around them.
