The centerpiece of this new residence was the eastern wing, where the building's famous triconch stands. This was a large three-apsed triclinium (dining room). Elaborate banquets were an important aspect of élite social interaction in the late Roman world. Guests reclined on a large semicircular dining couch, known as a stibadium. The remains of one were found in the central apse. The open space in the middle of the room was used by servants and entertainers during meals.
