The Palace of the Catholic Archdiocese
Catholic Archdiocese
Naxos, due to its brilliant historical past, is a seat of the Catholic Archdiocese, although the true seat of the Catholic archbishop is considered to be Xinara of Tinos. The current building of the Catholic Archdiocese is believed to have once been the home of the Duke of Naxos, while within it functioned the ducal chancellery (secretariat). During the Ottoman domination it fell into decline, but at the end of the 19th century it underwent extensive renovation. On the ground floor of the Catholic Archdiocese exists the Catholic ecclesiastical museum today.
