70 Turks
Peta
The battle was raging for two hours and the Greeks had repeatedly defeated the advancing Ottoman forces (7,000-8,000 men). But all of a sudden the Ottoman flags were seen waving from the hill at the extreme right of the Greek army. It was the position held by Bakolas’ men. To the other Greeks it was obvious that Bakolas had betrayed them and that a mass of Turks was coming to massacre them. In fact, there were only 70 Turks who had found themselves cut off from the rest of their army when they tried to attack the Greek right. Bakolas’ men had defeated the mass of advancing Turks, but these 70 men had somehow found themselves on top of the hill.
