No more urine
Roman Aqueduct/Saint George
The fulling-tub is also very popular here. Fulling involves the cleansing of wool to eliminate oils, dirt, and other impurities. In Roman times fulling was done by slaves who worked the cloth while ankle deep in tubs full of human urine (a material so important that it was taxed). Fortunately here there is no need for urine. The force of the water suffices to remove impurities and clean the wool. People and businesses from all over Epirus (and as far away as Athens) bring their carpets, blankets, and bedspreads here to have them cleaned. The washed items are then stretched on great frames to dry.
