150 years of boozing
Skoufa square
Plateia Skoufa, right next to the Church of the Parigoritissa, forms the backdrop to an old stone building that has housed a coffee shop since 1887. When the building first opened its doors, Arta had just become a part of Greece (1881). There were approximately 1000 Christian and 160 Jewish families in the city, while a few hundred Muslims had recently departed, not wishing to live in the Kingdom of Greece. Today the building houses the “En Arte Cafe”, an ideal place for some much needed rest. Greek coffee is always a good choice, but should you require something stronger you should not miss a shot of tsipouro, the quintessential alcoholic beverage of Arta.
