The castle of Arta
The castle gate is an unimpressive arched opening in the inner wall, but it may once have been a far more elaborate structure. To the left, as you enter, is another gateway to the citadel. There are numerous loopholes on either side of this gate. The interior of the castle was landscaped in the 1960s and a Xenia hotel occupies its centre. There is only one more entrance to the castle, through a postern gate with a massive lintel located in the centre of the northern wall. This gate gave access to the narrow corridor between the inner and outer walls. The most impressive feature of the castle are the towers (triangular, half-round, round, and square) that reinforce the walls and provide space for gun positions.
