The floating church
The castle of Pantokrator
The fort is a pentagon on a low headland facing south, towards the sea. It consists of a thin and high outer wall enclosing an internal court lined with two-level barrack blocks. A dry ditch protected the fort from land attacks. The guns were placed on the flat roofs of the barracks. Today most of these structures remain largely intact but abandoned to the elements. Only the barrack block on the north side (from where you enter the fort) is mostly gone. Perhaps the most disconsonant feature of this fortification is the modern church that seems to float atop the south barracks.
