Apollo comes to the rescue
The Great Games
The search for a third actor is over. Xenon, a young man from Argos, came to see me this morning, while I was having my customary breakfast of barley bread dipped in wine, and offered his services for such a low price I would be a fool not to hire him. I was mighty pleased with myself, so I visited the stadium of Nicopolis to enjoy the spectacles associated with the Actian Games. These are old and were founded by the Corinthians. Divine Augustus reorganized them to commemorate his victory against the treacherous Antony and his Egyptian queen. He also wanted to express his gratitude to Apollo, who is said to have helped him prevail in the sea battle. And so I managed to honour two gods in one day.
