Thunder and fire
The art of politics
The skene was burned to the ground. The charred stone walls stood roofless, while the roof tiles and the burned timbers formed a mount of destruction all over the place. Surprisingly, the ekkyklema is still here. I wonder how many times this wheeled platform was used to reveal interior scenes to the public (dead bodies mostly). I was also able to locate the bronteion, the iron vessels full of stones we shake to produce thunder. Other theaters use leather sacks filled with pebbles that collide with bronze metal plates. The wooden mechane (machine) that was used to lift the actors into the air and make gods appear to fly must have burned with the rest of the building. What a pity.
