The sack of Miletus
The art of politics
The city lacked for nothing. The agora, on the far side of Gitana, was basically an open square with a large stoa in the north and a commercial complex in the south. This was a place reserved solely for trade and the stores were not enough for all the shopkeepers and tradesmen who came here from the surrounding countryside, they would set up temporary wooden benches in the middle of the open area. Even today, amidst the ruins, I was able to find broken jars, amphorae, stone hand mills, loom weights, charred seeds and animal bones. Proof of the city’s violent end is everywhere and I wish there was someone here to witness my performance of Phrynichus' “Sack of Miletus”.
