Euripides in Dodona
A bloody new world
The theater of Dodona is a legend among us actors. This is where Euripides presented his drama “Archealos” and Chaeremon taught his satyric drama “Achilles Slayer of Thersites”. Apollogenes, the Arcadian boxer and actor won first prize here. It is even said that Euripides came back to Dodona for the first performance of his tragedy “Andromache”. Of course this particular theater was not built at the time (everyone I asked assured me that the stones I see belong to the era of the great and divine Augustus, while the oldest stone theater was built at the time of Pyrrhus) but this hillside seems the natural choice in case you want to perform before a large audience.
