A new philosophy
Papastratos Tobacco Warehouses
The Papastratos warehouse complex consists of three separate buildings. The two oldest buildings were constructed in the mid-1920s by the local architect Vassilios Tsouloufris (1850-1927), who had studied architecture in Constantinople. The three-storey warehouse has classicist influences, evident in the three-part structure with base, trunk and crown, as well as the symmetrical facade. The two-storey building with the eclectic elements to its left served administrative purposes. The five-storey warehouse was added in the early 1970s. As Sotiris Papastratos reported in 1936, the company’s goal was to provide a healthy working environment where tobacco could be handled with great care.
